BOSTON—After winning three regular season league titles and one tournament championship, the Babson College men finished third when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the 2016-17 Presidents Cup standings on Wednesday afternoon.
The Presidents Cup is an all-sports award presented to the top overall men's and women's programs in the conference and is determined using a weighted points system based on the order of finish during both the regular season and championship play.
The Beavers averaged 8.54 points, their highest mark in five years of competition, and placed third for the fourth consecutive season. MIT repeated as champion, while WPI edged the Green and White by just 0.06 points for second place.
Men's soccer claimed its first regular season league title since 2012, while basketball completed the first unbeaten conference season in NEWMAC history on its way to winning the program's first Division III national championship in March. Baseball won its final six conference games to grab a share of the league's regular season title and then swept a pair of best-of-three series to collect its first NEWMAC Tournament crown since 2009.
Men's track & field won three individual event titles for the first time in school history and finished just one point shy of a program record at the conference meet in April. Men's tennis finished second in the regular season standings for the fifth year in a row, while cross country and lacrosse both came in fourth.
