The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2009 postseason honors this week, and both the Babson College men's and women's track and field squads earned Team All-Academic status. In order to achieve this honor, teams must have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.100 or above. This marks the third consecutive Team All-Academic nod for the Babson men, while the women garnered All-Academic recognition for the second straight season. Both squads posted cumulative grade-point averages of 3.200 through the spring semester. [+]
The Babson College track and field team sent seven individuals and two relay teams to the 2009 NCAA New England Division III Championships at Springfield College this weekend. Highlighting the event for the Beavers was first-year Justin Bowman (Plymouth, Mass.), who celebrated his regional debut by earning All-New England honors in the 800 meter run. Seeded 18th heading into the event, Bowman capped off his magnificent rookie campaign with another stellar run, finishing eighth overall with a time of 1:56.11. It was just .02 seconds shy of his own school record set last weekend, and it earned him a spot on the All-New England Team. He is just the fourth male in Babson track and field history to earn NCAA All-Region status, joining Brian Gagne, Chris Perry, who did it twice, and Dan Cowan, who did it three times. [+]
First-year Alexa Untermann (Honolulu, Hawaii) won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship in the high jump at Mount Holyoke on Saturday, helping the Babson College women's track and field teams post their best finish ever at the conference championships. The women finished sixth overall with a team score of 27 points, while the men took sixth in their half of the meet with a team score of 14 points. For the men, first-year Justin Bowman (Plymouth, Mass.) earned All-NEWMAC Second Team honors after finishing second overall and breaking his own school record in the 800 meter run. [+]
