This fall the Babson athletic teams not only performed on the field and in the classroom, but they also gave back to the community in many different ways. Several teams participated in community service events that benefited many organizations including the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and the Jimmy Fund. “I’m extremely proud of everything our athletes have done and continue to do within the community,” said Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur. “These young men and women have tremendous demands on their time and energy, and yet they still make the effort to give back in whatever way they can. They genuinely thrive on touching the lives of others, and in doing so they serve as wonderful ambassadors for Babson College and our athletics program.” [+]
After guiding the Babson College baseball team to its second NEWMAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth this spring, sophomore pitcher Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) and sophomore second baseman Billy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) have both received All-New England honors. Both were named All-Region Second Team by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), while Aisenstdt also garnered Second Team status from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA). The first seven batters of the fourth inning collected hits – with Ethan Guerette (Wales, ME) clearing the bass with a single in the gap – as the seventh-seeded Husson College baseball team remained alive in the 2009 NCAA Division III New England Regional Tournament with a 10-6 win over eighth-seeded Babson College Friday afternoon at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. The loss eliminates Babson (23-29) and sends Husson (33-13) against either second-seeded University of Southern Maine or top-seeded Eastern Connecticut Saturday at 11 a.m. The USM-Eastern winner faces Husson and the loser becomes the fourth team to be eliminated in the original field of eight.
