Golf's Perlaza Named To NECC All-Academic Team
Babson College sophomore Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Columbia) has been named to the 2009 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Fall Academic All-Conference team. A total of 153 fall student athletes made the list that requires a minimum grade point average of 3.40 as well as being a sophomore or older. Perlaza was one of only six NECC golfers to be awarded.

Pineres Named Division III All-New England, NECC Golfer of the Week
Babson College co-captain Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Columbia) capped off his the fall portion of his senior season with a pair of awards, as he was named to the New England Division III All-Region Team by the NEIGA last Thursday and was then tabbed New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week on Monday. Both awards stemmed from Pineres' tremendous performance at the NEIGA Championships at the Captains Course in Brewster, Massachusetts on Monday and Tuesday. The Beavers' senior star carded rounds of 75 and 78 for an overall score of 153, placing him in a tie for 28th out of 191 total competitors.

Golf Wraps Up Fall With 14th-Place Finish At NEIGA Championships
The Babson College men's golf team closed out the fall portion of its 2009-10 season at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Assocation (NEIGA) Championships at the Captains Course on Tuesday, where the Beavers finished 14th out of 39 competing teams. After shooting 312 in Monday's opening round, Babson posted a 316 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 628 - 46 shots off the winning pace set by tournament champion UConn. Senior captain Fernando Pineres once again posted Babson's top finish of the tourney, shooting a 78 on Tuesday to finish 28th overall with a two-round score of 153.

Golf In 11th Place Midway Through NEIGA Championships
The Babson College golf team carded a team score of 312 to stand in 11th place out of 39 teams at the 75th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships on Monday. The Beavers were led by senior captain Fernando Pineres, who shot an opening round 75 to rank 18th overall. Play will conclude with the tournament's final 18 holes on Tuesday.

Eger Named NECC Golfer Of The Week
After guiding his team to its first-ever New England Collegitate Conference (NECC) Championship, Babson College junior captain Bryan Eger (Marion, Mass.) has been named the conference Golfer of the Week. Eger led wire to wire in Babson's inaugural NECC Championship event, firing rounds of 70 and 79 to finish first overall with a total score of 149 - one stroke ahead of sophomore teammate Carmilo Perlaza (Cali, Colombia). As a result, Eger was named the NECC Golfer of the Year, and was named to the All-Conference First Team.

Eger, Golf Win First Ever NECC Championship
In its first season as an associate member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), Babson College won the 2009 NECC Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course. While windy conditions made for higher final round scores, Babson recorded the best team score of the day at 314 and finished the 36-hole tournament with a total of 608. The Beavers’ Bryan Eger (Marion, Mass.) was the individual medalist for the tournament and was named NECC Golfer of the Year. He shot 79 in the final round and finished with a two-day total of 149.

Golf Holds Commanding Lead After Day One At NECC Championships
Babson College leads the field of seven schools after the first round of play at the 2009 NECC Men’s Golf Championship on Saturday at Shennecossett Golf Course. Babson shot 294 as a team and holds a 21-stroke lead over Becker College (315). Rounding out the team scores were Springfield College (330), Elms College (341), Mitchell College (348), Daniel Webster College (361) and Newbury College (404). Babson’s Bryan Eger (Marion, Mass.) sits atop the leader board while teammates Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Colombia) and Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Colombia) are right behind.

Perlaza Becomes Babson's Third Straight NECC Golfer of the Week
Babson College sophomore Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Colombia) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Golf Player of the Week on Monday. This marks the third straight week that a Beaver linkster was honored by the league, of which Babson became an associate member this season. Perlaza posted the Beavers' top finish at the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury College this weekend, shooting rounds of 77 and 79 to place 20th overall with a 156.

Golf Stumbles On Day Two Of Duke Nelson Invitational
The Babson College golf team struggled on day two of the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury College on Sunday, as the Beavers finished the event in 13th place out of 21 teams. Sophomore Camilo Perlaza was Babson's top finisher over the weekend, firing a 79 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 20th place with a two-round total of 156. Sophomore Joe Young shot an 80 for the second straight day to place 38th with a total of 160, senior captain Fernando Pineres finished 64th with a 166, and junior captain Bryan Eger took 68th with a 168.

Golf In Ninth Place After Opening Round At Middlebury
It was a tough scoring day at the opening round of the 2009 Middlebury Men's Golf Invitational on Saturday, where the Babson College Beavers stood in ninth place after 18 holes. Babson's team score of 322 was 15 shots behind first-place Williams College, which led the 21-team field with an opening round total of 307. On a day in which no player finished below par, sophomore Camilo Perlaza posted the Beavers' top score with a six-over 77, placing him in a tie for 11th place overall - six shots behind tournament leader Bob Bruso of Worcester State.

Pineres Repeats as NECC Golfer of the Week
For the second time this season, Babson College senior captain Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Colombia) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week in men's golf. Pineres garnered his second conference honor in as many weeks after finishing third overall at the Williams Invitational this past weekend. After carding a 71 in the opening round, Pineres closed with a three-under 67 on Sunday - tying him for the second lowest round of the day. His two-day total of 138 was just three strokes behind medalist Jeff Santora of Salem State, who won with a two-round aggregate of 135. As a result of his top-five finish, Pineres was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Brilliant Second Round Helps Golf Finish Third At Williams Invitational
Senior Fernando Pineres shot a second-round of 67 to finish third overall and sophomore Joe Young placed fourth to lead the Babson College golf team to a third-place finish out of 16 squads at the 2009 Williams Invitational on Sunday. Babson, which ranked sixth after Saturday's opening round, saw all five players fire sub-80 rounds as the Beavers vaulted to third in the final standings. After shooting 71 on Saturday, Pineres closed out his weekend with a three-under 67 on Sunday - tying him for the second lowest round of the day. Medalist Jeff Santora of Salem State shot a 66 to finish first with a two-day total of 135, Williams' Jack Killea shot 67 to place second at 137, and Pineres came in third at 138.

Golf Sixth After Day One At Williams Tourney
After day one of the Williams College Invitational, the Babson College golf team stood in sixth place out of 16 squads. Senior captain Fernando Pineres was the Beavers' top performer in the opening round of the two-day tournament, carding a 71 to tie for fifth place overall. Close behind him was sophomore Joe Young, who was tied for seventh after an opneing-round 72.

Pineres Named NECC Player of the Week
After leading his team to a first-place finish in its season opener at the Trinity Invitational, Babson College senior co-captain Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Colombia) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week. Pineres kicked off his final season with a spectacular effort at Trinity, firing matching rounds of 73 and 73 for a two-day total of 146 (+2). That placed him in a tie for third place overall, just three shots off the winning pace.

Golf Wins 2009 Trinity Invitational; Pineres and Young Both Place In Top 10
The Babson College men's golf team won its first event of the 2009-10 season, as the Beavers finished first out of seven teams at the Trinity Invitational. Babson's second-round score of 296 gave the Beavers' a two-day total of 600, five strokes better than second-place Trinity and Susquehanna. Senior co-captain Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Colombia) led the Green and White with a two-round total of 146 - tying him for third place overall behind Pasquale Pio of Nichols (143) and Mitch Mercer of Susquehanna (145). Sophomore Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) followed in a tie for sixth place with a composite score of 148, while junior co-captain Bryan Eger (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Colombia) both tied for 12th place with matching scores of 153.

Golf In First Place After Day One At Trinity Invitational
After day one of the 2009 Trinity Invitational Golf Tournament at Blackledge Country Club, the Babson College Beavers stood in first place out of seven teams. Babson's first-round score of 304 was one ahead of second-place Susquehanna and two ahead of third-place Bentley. Leading the Beavers was senior co-captain Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Colombia), whose opening-round 73 put him in a tie for third place, two shots off the lead. Sophomore Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) was close behind in seventh place with a round of 75, followed by junior captain Bryan Egar (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Colombia) in 17th place with matching rounds of 78.

Golf Tabbed Preseason Favorite In NECC
Babson College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men’s golf championship, it was announced recently by Commissioner Del Malloy. The Beavers received four of the seven first-place votes in the 2009 NECC preseason poll. Led by veteran head coach Mike Vassalotti, Babson is in its first season as an associate member of the NECC after being without a conference for five years since the NEWMAC dropped the sport after the 2003-04 season. Prior to that, the Beavers had won seven consecutive conference championships dating back to the Constitution Athletic Conference (CAC) back in 1997-98.

Babson Golf To Join New England Collegiate Conference
The Babson College men’s golf program has been accepted as an associate member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur and NECC Commissioner Del Malloy announced on Friday. Babson’s first season in the conference will be this coming fall. Boasting a tremendous history, the Beavers’ golf team won seven consecutive conference titles from 1997 to 2003 – one in the Constitution Athletic Conference and six more in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. However, Babson has been without a conference since the NEWMAC ceased its sponsorship of the sport after the 2003-04 season.
