Men's Lacrosse Dominates Norwich, 14-5

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Norwich University 14-5 on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field in a Pilgrim League contest. The Beavers were led by senior E.J. Peterson who had a game high five points with three goals and two assists. With the win, Babson is now 3-6 on the season and 2-0 in the Pilgrim League. Norwich drops to 0-4, 0-2 in the Pilgrim League.

In the first period the teams were evenly matched both scoring three goals.  For Babson, senior Matt Enright (Bristol, R.I.) scored the first goal of the game at the 12:07 mark. Sophomores Armand Wilson (Fairfield, Conn.) and Thomas Cykana (Minnetonks, Minn.) each chipped in one goal in the period. Norwich sophomore Tyler Nicoll (Ogden, Utah) tallied two goals in the period and sophomore Kevin Young (Westfield, Mass.) added one.

Norwich sophomore Tyler Woods (Essex Junction, N.J.) scored the first goal of the second period to put the Cadets up 4-3 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half. The Beavers came back to score six unanswered goals to take the lead at halftime, 9-4.  Babson sophomore Jake Konaxis (Beverly, Mass.) scored back to back unassisted goals after picking up two rebounded shots in the final five minutes of play.

The Beavers scored five goals in the second half while holding Norwich scoreless for nearly 25 minutes. Two of Peterson's goal came within a minute and a half of one another in the final period. Norwich junior Kyle Marzeoti (Billerica, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal with 5:32 left in the game to give the Cadets their fifth goal and final goal.

On the day, Peterson finished with three goals and two assists for Babson. Wilson also ended with three goals and Konaxis had two. Enright, Cykana, sophomores Andrew Packer (Hudson, Ohio) and Chris Smith (Wayland, Mass.), junior Jon Standed (South Hadley, Mass.), and first-year Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) each had one goal in the victory. Babson outshot Norwich 62-15 and Caruso had a game high 13 groundballs and while winning 12 face-offs. Senior Max Owen (Hamilton, N.J.) and sophomore Mike Saucier (Nashua, N.H.) split the time in goal for the Beavers. Owen had two saves and Saucier had one.

For Norwich, Marzeoti had a team high seven groundballs and won eight face-offs. Sophomore Ryan Leroux (Potsdam, N.Y.) and first-year Nathan Proctor (Pleasanton, Calif.) shared the time in net for the Cadets making a combined 21 saves. Leroux had twelve in the first half and Proctor had nine in the second.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, April 8th when they host Mount Ida College for a 4:00 game at MacDowell Field. Norwich will play Wednesday when they visit Green Mountain College.
