Three From Men’s Soccer Earn All-Region Honors; Fogarty Named NSCAA Scholar Athlete All-American
Babson Park, Mass. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) have both announced their respective 2009 All-New England Teams, and three Babson men’s soccer players have been recognized. Senior Dan Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.) and first-year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) were both named to the NSCAA All-New England First Team and senior Chris Morris (Shoreline, Wash.) was named to the second team. For the ECAC, Fogarty and Anderson were named to the All-New England Second Team. The NSCAA has also released the Scholar Athlete awards list with Fogarty earning a spot on the Scholar Athlete All-America Second Team as well as the NSCAA Scholar Athlete All-East Region First Team.

Babson Athletes Give Back This Fall
This fall the Babson athletic teams not only performed on the field and in the classroom, but they also gave back to the community in many different ways. Several teams participated in community service events that benefited many organizations including the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and the Jimmy Fund. “I’m extremely proud of everything our athletes have done and continue to do within the community,” said Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur. “These young men and women have tremendous demands on their time and energy, and yet they still make the effort to give back in whatever way they can. They genuinely thrive on touching the lives of others, and in doing so they serve as wonderful ambassadors for Babson College and our athletics program.”

WNEC Upsets Men's Soccer, 1-0, In NCAA Tournament Mudbowl
Amidst a driving rain and horrific field conditions, Western New England College pulled out a messy 1-0 victory over Babson College in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship at Wesleyan University on Saturday. Despite a valiant effort, the Beavers saw their magnificent 2009 season come to a close with an overall record of 15-6-1.

NEWMAC Releases Fall All-Academic Teams; 12 Beavers Honored
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has officially announced its fall Academic All-Conference Teams, and a total of 13 Babson College athletes were recognized. Representing the Beavers with All-Academic honors were senior Kristen Lang (Kennebunk, Maine), sophomore Wendy Glickenhouse (Red Hook, N.Y.), sophomore Kyle Fitzpatrick (Toledo, Ohio), and sophomore Mike Smith (Brockton, Mass.) of cross country; senior Emiley Cohen (West Grove, Pa.), senior Alyssa L'Bassi (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and junior Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) of field hockey; seniors Dan Fogarty (Brookeline, N.H.) and Sean Gleason (Clinton, N.Y.) of men's soccer; junior Katy Alea (Southborough, Mass.), junior Laura Duston (Nashua, N.H.), and sophomore Alexa Untermann (Honolulu, Hawaii) of volleyball; and junior Kristy Benoit (Shrewsbury, Mass.) of women's soccer.

Father-Son Combo Highlights Babson's NEWMAC Men's Soccer Award Winners
Two days after winning its second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, the Babson College men's soccer team saw five individuals garner league awards on Tuesday. Senior midfielder Dan Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.) and first-year forward Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) were both named All-Conference First Team, and senior back Chris Morris (Shoreline, Wash.) and sophomore goalie Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) were selected to the All-NEWMAC Second Team. In addition, Anderson was chosen as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, and head coach Jon Anderson was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year.

Men's Soccer To Face WNEC In NCAA First Round At Wesleyan
Following its second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, the Babson College men's soccer team is set to make its 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament this weekend. The Beavers to travel to Middletown, Connnecticut, where they will face Western New England College in the first round at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of Wesleyan University. The winner of Saturday's contest will play either St. Joseph's of Maine or the host Cardinals in Sunday's second round beginning at 1 p.m. Ticket prices for both games will be $6 for adults, $3 for students with IDs, and $2 for children.

Stento Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
After leading his team to its second consecutive New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference championship, Babson College sophomore Jimmy Stento (Needham, Mass.) was named the NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday. Stento factored in on three of Babson's four goals in leading the top-seeded Beavers to back-to-back tournament wins this weekend. On Saturday, he scored Babson's first goal and then assisted the eventual game-winner in a 2-1 semifinal victory over fourth-seeded WPI. On Sunday, Stento snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 77th minute to lift the Beavers to a 2-1 victory over second-seeded Wheaton in the conference championship game.

CHAMPS AGAIN! MEN'S SOCCER BEATS WHEATON, 2-1, FOR SECOND STRAIGHT NEWMAC CROWN
Sophomore Jimmy Stento (Needham, Mass.) continued his brilliant late-season play by scoring the game-winning goal in the 77th minute as the top-seeded Babson College Beavers defeated second-seeded archrival Wheaton College, 2-1, in the championship game of the 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament at Babson’s Hartwell-Rogers Field on Sunday afternoon. It marked the second consecutive conference title and the fourth in the last eight years for the Beavers (15-5-1), who entered the weekend ranked eighth in New England by the NCAA. Babson also secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with the win – the 21st berth in team history.

Men's Soccer Advances to NEWMAC Championship Game with 2-1 Win Over WPI
Jimmy Stento (Needham, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted another to help lift top-seeded host Babson College to a 2-1 victory over visiting fourth seed WPI in the semifinals of the 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday. With the win, the Beavers (14-5-1), ranked eighth in New England by the NCAA, advance to their fourth straight conference championship game, where they will meet either second-seeded Wheaton College on Sunday at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, WPI finishes its season with a record of 10-7-1.

Men’s Soccer Goes Undefeated in NEWMAC Play with 4-2 Win Over MIT
Three first-half goals helped propel visiting Babson College to a 4-2 victory over MIT in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s soccer regular season finale on Saturday. First-year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Jimmy Stento (Needham, Mass.) each registered one goal and two assists for the Beavers, who improved to 13-5-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Christian Therkelsen paced the Engineers (8-8, 2-4 NEWMAC) with one goal and an assist. As the No. 1 seed, Babson earns a first round bye will be the site of the semifinal and championship games. Babson will play the winner of the quarterfinal match between WPI and MIT on Saturday at 10:30 am.

New Assist King Fogarty Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
After a record-setting week in which he helped his squad win a pair of games, Babson College senior midfielder Dan Fogarty Brookline, N.H.) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the first time this season. Fogarty recorded three assists, including one on each of Babson's game-winning goals, in back-to-back wins over WPI and Plymouth State this week. As a result, he broke the program's all-time assist record previously held by Babson greats Dan Pucci '98 and Jonah Frisch '03.

Nickerson, Fogarty Highlight Men's Soccer's Historic 5-1 Win Over Plymouth State
Babson College sophomore Billy Nickerson (Middleton, Mass.) and senior Dan Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.) both made history on Sunday afternoon, as the Beavers defeated visiting Plymouth State University, 5-1, in a non-conference matchup at Hartwell-Rogers Field. Nickerson tied a 39-year program record with four goals in a single game, while Fogarty notched two assists to become Babson’s all-time leader with 36 in his career. Now with five wins in their last six contests, the Beavers, ranked ninth in New England by the NSCAA and 10th in the region by the NCAA, improve to 12-5-1 overall, while the Panthers sink to 9-7-0 with the loss. Entering the game with three goals on the year, Nickerson more than doubled his season total with four scores in the win. That tied the Beavers’ program record for goals in one game originally set by Chaiyot Sasomsub, who scored four times against Stonehill on October 28, 1970.

Men's Soccer Beats WPI, 2-1, In Double OT To Clinch Top Seed In NEWMAC Tournament
First-year Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) collected a goal with just 29 seconds remaining in the second overtime to propel visiting Babson to a dramatic 2-1 victory over WPI in NEWMAC men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Beavers at least a share of the NEWMAC regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tournament early next month. Iwuagwu provided the heroics when he took a pass from Dan Fogarty (Brookline, NH) as he was colliding with the WPI goalkeeper. The ball continued into the net for the freshman’s sixth goal of the season. The helper was Fogarty’s 34th assist of his career, tying Dan Pucci ’98 and Jonah Frisch ’03 for the all-time Babson record.

Bowdoin Overpowers Men's Soccer, 3-0
The Bowdoin College men's soccer team used a big first half to take a 3-0 decision over Babson in a battle of regionally-ranked squads on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears, ranked seventh in New England, improve to 8-3-1 while the Beavers, standing ninth in the regional poll, drop to 10-5-1. Sophomore Peter Crowley made six saves in net for the Beavers, who lost for the first time in five games. The blank sheet is the eighth shutout of the year for the Polar Bears and snaps a three-game winning streak for the Beavers. Babson had not been blanked since September 6 in a 1-0 defeat to Eastern Connecticut.

Men's Soccer Remains Perfect In NEWMAC With 3-1 Win Over Springfield
The Babson College men’s soccer team remained undefeated in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 3-1 victory over visiting Springfield College at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers, ranked ninth in New England by the NSCAA, improved to 10-4-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference, while the Pride fell to 4-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in league play. Babson took a 1-0 lead less than 12 minutes in, as senior Dan Fogarty (Brookine, N.H.) took a pass on the left side from first-year Justin LeBlanc (Manchester, Conn.), made a move past a defender, and squeezed a shot inside the near post for his fourth goal of the year at 11:43.

Anderson Powers Men's Soccer Past Brandeis, 3-2
Just one day after earning NEWMAC Player of the Week honors, Babson College first-year forward Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) recorded his first collegiate hat trick to lift the host Beavers to a 3-2 victory over visiting Brandeis University in a matchup of longtime non-conference rivals at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Babson, ranked ninth in New England by the NSCAA, improved to 9-4-1 overall, while the Judges saw their record drop to 4-6-1. With the three goals, Anderson now leads the Beavers with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points on the year. Sophomore keeper Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) added five saves for Babson, which is now 3-1-1 in its last five outings.

Anderson Tabbed NEWMAC Player Of The Week
After scoring both of Babson's goals in a 1-0-1 week, first-year striker Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the first time in his young career. Anderson accounted for both of the Beavers' goals against two highly-ranked opponents. On Wednesday, he scored the first goal of the game in the 51st minute of an eventual 1-1 double-overtime tie with Connecticut College, ranked fifth in the New England by the NSCAA. He then netted the game's lone tally in the 38th minute on Saturday, as Babson claimed a huge 1-0 victory over Wheaton, ranked third in the region and 22nd in the country.

Men's Soccer Knocks Off #22 Wheaton, 1-0
First-year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute and sophomore Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) made nine saves in net as the Babson College Beavers defeated nationally-ranked Wheaton College, 1-0, in a key matchup of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) archrivals at Babson’s Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers, ranked 10th in New England by the NSCAA, take over sole possession of first place in the conference at 8-4-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the NEWMAC, while the Lyons, ranked third in the region and 22nd in the nation, fall to 11-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play. In another epic battle between the two perennial NEWMAC powers, Babson netted the game’s only goal late in the first half. After taking a throw-in from classmate Edson Silva (Brockton, Mass.), sophomore Max Walker (Newton, Mass.) gained the end line on the right side and fired a quick shot on net. Wheaton junior keeper Cole Davidson (Needham, Mass.) made the initial save just inside the near post, but the rebound went right to Anderson, who hammered it from the middle of the box into the upper left corner for his team-leading eighth goal of the season at 37:34.

Men's Soccer Settles For 1-1 Tie At Connecticut College
First-year Eric Anderson scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season and sophomore Peter Crowley made seven saves in net as the Babson College men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with host Connecticut College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. With the deadlock, the Beavers, ranked 10th in New England by the NSCAA, are now 7-4-1 on the season.

Union Nudges Babson In Overtime, 3-2
Junior John Manna (Acton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal less than four minutes into overtime and senior Ryan Benagan (Albany, N.Y.) added a pair of scores to lift the Union College men’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference contest at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Dutchmen, ranked ninth in the East Region by the NSCAA, improved to 7-3 overall, while the Beavers fell to 7-4. Babson fell behind 2-0 early in the second half, but came charging back behind goals from senior Dan Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.) and first-year Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria). Sophomore Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) finished with five saves in defeat.

The Babson men's soccer team continued its stellar play with a key 3-1 victory over regional power Keene State College on Wednesday night. The Beavers, who have now won six of their last seven to improve to 7-3, received one goal and one assist each from sophomore Billy Nickerson and first-year Eric Anderson, as well as three saves from sophomore goalie Peter Crowley.

Iwuagwu Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
After scoring a goal in all three of his team's games this week, Babson College first-year striker Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Iwuagwu began the week by scoring the game-tying goal with 10 minutes left in regulation against Framingham State on Wednesday. That score eventually sent the contest into overtime, where Babson won, 3-2. Iwuagwu then tallied the game's first goal in a 3-2 OT win over Coast Guard on Saturday, and he finished the week by scoring the Beavers' only goal in a 2-1 loss to 19th-ranked Williams on Sunday.

The Babson College men’s soccer team staged a valiant comeback attempt in the second half but could not overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit as the Beavers lost to nationally-ranked Williams College by a score of 2-1 in a non-conference contest at Babson’s Hartwell-Rogers Field on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Ephs, ranked third in New England and 19th in the country by the NSCAA, improved to 5-0-1, while the Beavers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end to fall to 6-3-0 overall. Sophomore Billy Nickerson (Middleton, Mass.) assisted first-year Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) on Babson's goal, while sophomore goalie Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) stopped five shots in net.

Anderson, Men's Soccer Trump Coast Guard In Overtime, 3-2
First-year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the visiting Babson College Beavers to a thrilling 3-2 win over the host United States Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Babson ups its record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Bears drop to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the NEWMAC. First-year Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) gave Babson a 1-0 lead late in the first half with his third goal of the season, but Coast Guard answered with two scores in the second stanza to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Dan Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.) then scored his first of the year on a free kick with 13 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.

LeBlanc's Heroics Give Men's Soccer 3-2 Overtime Win Over Framingham State
First-year midfielder Justin LeBlanc (Manchester, Conn.) knocked home a cross from sophomore midfielder Edson Silva (Brockton, Mass.) two minutes into the second overtime to lift the Babson College men’s soccer team to a 3-2 win over the Framingham State Rams in non-conference men’s soccer action this afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field. With the win, Babson improves to 5-2 on the season, while the loss drops the Rams to 1-6. First-year Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) scored the tying goal with 10 minutes left to force the extra session, and sophomore Pete Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) finished with two saves in net.

Crowley, Men's Soccer Shut Out Clark, 1-0, In NEWMAC Opener
First-year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute and sophomore goalie Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) made five saves to earn a shutout in his return to net as the Babson College Beavers defeated visiting Clark University, 1-0, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference(NEWMAC) men’s soccer contest at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon. With its third straight win, Babson improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Cougars dipped to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC. After missing the team’s first five games with an injury, Crowley was outstanding in his return to the Babson net, finishing with five saves. His best stop of the day came just 26 seconds in the contest, as he made a spectacular diving save to his right on a hard shot by Clark senior Jeremy Radovsky (San Francisco, Calif.). He would go on to make three more stops in the first half and another in the second as he earned his ninth career shutout.

Men's Soccer Blanks Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 2-0
Babson College scored two second-half goals and sophomore back-up keeper Robert Scchmidt-Chang (Concord, Mass.) made six saves to lift the Beavers to a 2-0 victory over visiting Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a non-conference men’s soccer contest on Sunday afternoon. With their second win in as many days, the Beavers improved to 3-2 overall, while the Stags dropped to 1-2. Sophomore Salomon Guindi (Mexico City, Mexico) netted Babson's first goal - his second in as many days - while first-year Ayo Iwagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) tallied the second for his first collegiate score.

Men's Soccer Outguns UMass-Boston, 4-3
Babson College built a 4-1 lead late in the first half and then held off visiting UMass-Boston as the Beavers defeated the Beacons, 4-3, in a wild non-conference men’s soccer contest at Babson’s Hartwell-Rogers Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon. With the win, Babson evened its record at 2-2, while UMass-Boston slipped to 1-2. First-year Eric Anderson netted a pair of goals in the victory, while sophomores Edson Silva and Salomon Guindi also added scores.

Eastern Connecticut State Tips Men's Soccer, 1-0, To Win Babson Classic
Senior midfielder Chris Bourdeau scored the game’s only goal off a corner kick in the 55th minute and first-year Jordan Munsell made two enormous saves late in the game as the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors defeated host Babson College, 1-0, to win the 2009 Babson Soccer Classic Championship on Sunday afternoon. With the win, ECSU improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Beavers slipped to 1-2 overall.

Men’s Soccer Drops Wentworth, 3-2, in Day One of Babson Soccer Classic
In the opening day of the 3rd Annual Babson Soccer Classic, the Babson College men’s soccer team defeated visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-2 in game one. Sophomore Billy Nickerson (Middleton, Mass.) scored two first half goals for the Beavers and first-year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) scored the game winner in the 64th minute to give Babson the victory. With the win, Babson improves to 1-1 on the season and Wentworth is 0-1. The Beavers will take on Eastern Connecticut State University Sunday at 1pm at Hartwell-Rogers Field, while Wentworth will face MIT at 3:30pm.

Roger Williams Upsets Men's Soccer, 1-0, In Season Opener
Junior Daniel Hunter scored the game’s only goal in the 12th minute and junior Peter Plate made 10 saves in net as the visiting Roger Williams University Hawks came away with a 1-0 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference men’s soccer contest at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Tuesday afternoon. It was the season opener for both teams.Playing in his first collegiate game in net, Siekman finished with four saves for the Beavers.

2009-10 Season Preview: Men's Soccer
Following a fantastic season that featured a 16-4-2 record, a NEWMAC Championship, and yet another bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Babson College men’s soccer team will set its sights on NCAA bid number 21 this fall. The Beavers’ biggest challenge will be replacing the on-field dominance of two-time All-American and all-time goals and points leader Tim Winn ’08, who will trade in his #14 for a suit and tie as he joins head coach Jon Anderson’s staff as an assistant coach this season.
