Men Defeat Brandeis as Swimming & Diving Competes in Dual Meets at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams participated in a series of dual meets on Friday night at WPI's Sports and Recreation Center Pool. The Beavers defeated Brandeis 139.50-122.50 and fell to the host Engineers 162-116 to split the men's races, while the women's squad fell to WPI (241-48), Brandeis (201-69), Smith (187-100) and Simmons (232-61).

Sophomore Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) and first-year Aaron Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.) were both multiple winners for the Green and White in the men's half of the meet. Damiecki touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (51.05) and 200 butterfly (1:58.74), while Huynh came in first in the 100-yard freestyle (47.36) and 200 free (1:44.55).

Sophomore Taras Polakoff (Orange County, Calif.) was the runner-up in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while junior Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) placed second in the 1000 free and third in the 500 free. First-year Walter Lehneis (Hackettstown, N.J.) also recorded a trio of top-three results as he finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke and third in both the 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore Lachlan Dibbayawan (Bangkok, Thailand) came in third in the 50 free, sophomore Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) was fourth in the 100 backstroke, and first-year Ethan Yoo (Redondo Beach, Calif.) added a fourth-place showing in the 100 breaststroke.

The lone win in the women's half of the meet for Babson belonged to senior Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) with her score of 201.80 on the 3-meter diving board. Amoroso also came in third in the 3-meter event, while first-year Elizabeth Demoine (Avon by the Sea, N.J.) placed third with a time of 26.59 in the 50 free to go along with a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

Senior Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) finished seventh in the 1000 free and first-year Stella Hu (Wellesley, Mass.) posted a pair of seventh-place results in the 100 free and 200 free.

The Babson women return to action on Saturday when they travel to Western New England for a 12 p.m. meet. The Babson men will host Norwich and Regis next Saturday at 1 p.m.
