Men's Tennis Drops Spring Opener To Bates, 7-2

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Babson College men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2009-10 season on Friday, as the Beavers fell to visiting Bates College, 7-2, in a non-conference match played at the Boston Sports Club. With the win, the Bobcats moved to 2-1 on the year, while Babson dipped to 2-3.

The Beavers received one of its points at number one doubles, where the tandem of seniors Alex Kamergorodsky (Millis, Mass.) and Brian Lafayette (Burlington, Vt.) picked up an 8-6 win over Bates' team of Amrit Rupsinghe and Mike Reiss. Returning senior Moises Numa (Talahassee, Fla.) then earned his first win of the season at number six singles, downing the Bobcats' Ryan Mannelly in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. However, Bates would take the remaining two doubles matches and five singles battles to claim the 7-2 victory.

Babson will return to action with three matches during its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida, beginning with a 9 a.m. contest against Stevens on March 15.
