Collins, Pettengill Named IWLCA All-America; Three Others Earn Regional Recognition

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The final women's lacrosse postseason awards for the 2009 season have officially been announced, and several Babson College players were recognized. Leading the way for the Beavers were juniors Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.), who both garnered All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Collins was named All-America Second Team - her second straight national award - while Pettengill earned All-America Third Team status.

Joining Collins and Pettengill on the IWLCA's All-New England First Team (Berkshires Region) were senior captains Lindsay Bucci (Medford, Mass.) and Jackie Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.), while first-year Trisha Babson (Duxbury, Mass.) was dubbed All-New England Second Team. Godfrey and Collins were also named All-New England First Team by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), with Pettengill earning Second Team recognition. Rounding out the team's impressive list of awards was Babson, who was crowned the ECAC New England Rookie of the Year.

Collins earned her second straight All-New England and All-America awards after one of the greatest seasons in Babson lacrosse history. The junior midfielder led the team and set new single-season program records with 75 goals and 91 points this spring. Collins also contributed 16 assists, 43 groundballs, 40 draw controls, and 19 caused turnovers. As a result, she moved up to seventh place on Babson's all-time goals (158) and points (194) lists, and she now ranks ninth in assists (36) and 12th in groundballs (109). A Third Team All-American last year, Collins also earned NEWMAC Player of the Year and NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honors this season.

Another junior that is already well established as one of the program's all-time greats, Pettengill garnered All-New England First Team recognition for the third straight season and All-America Third Team honors for the first time in her career. Another of Babson's All-Conference First Team honorees, Pettengill amassed 58 goals for 17 assists for 75 points this spring. Like Collins, she also surpassed the program's previous single-season points record, as her totals trail only her classmate on Babson's all-time list. Switching from attack to midfield this season, she also led the Beavers with 46 groundballs and 33 caused turnovers while picking up 20 draw controls. She will head into her final collegiate campaign already ranked sixth on the program's career goals list (162), seventh in assists (41), fifth in points (203), and 17th in groundballs (95).

Earning her fourth consecutive All-New England First Team selection was Godfrey, who set a new single-season program record with 37 assists this spring while scoring 27 goals for 64 total points. The senior standout also ranked among the team's leaders with 25 groundballs, 34 draws, and 17 caused turnovers. With the record-setting assist numbers this season, Godfrey is now Babson's all-time leader with 84 career helpers while ranking eighth in career goals (150), third in groundballs (156), and third in points (234) behind only two-time All-American Anita Martignetti '08 and Babson Athletics Hall of Famer Tracy Russell '97. Godfrey leaves Babson as one of the most decorated players in program history, having earned four straight All-NEWMAC First Team honors, four straight All-New England First Team awards, and an All-America Third Team selection in 2007.

Bucci returns to the All-New England First Team for the second time in her illustrious career, as she tallied 37 goals and nine assists for 46 points in her senior campaign. She graduates in fifth place on the program's all-time goals list with 164 while ranking 10th in assists (34) and sixth in points (198). An All-England First Teamer in 2007, Bucci also earned her second All-NEWMAC First Team honor this spring.

Adding yet another chapter to Beavers' long history of outstanding first-year players, Babson capped off a spectacular rookie season by earning ECAC New England Rookie of the Year and All-Region Second Team honors. The star freshman totaled 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in 17 games this season while also leading the team with 78 draw controls. Already 17th on the program's all-time assist list after just one season of play, Babson also earned All-Conference Second Team status while winning Babson's fifth straight NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honor.

The Beavers' numerous postseason awards come on the heels of yet another brilliant season, as Babson went 15-3, won its third straight NEWMAC Championship, and made its third consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Other highlights for the Beavers included a 19-7 win over Farmingdale State in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament home game, a program record 13-game winning streak, and another sweep of the NEWMAC, which extended Babson's conference win streak to 24 games over three seasons.
