Ekman Sets New 3-Meter Diving Mark as Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes 10th at NEWMAC Championship

WORCESTER, Mass.—Highlighted by a new school record in the 3-meter diving competition by senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.), the Babson College women's swimming & diving team finished 10th at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Sunday at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center.

The Beavers totaled 53 points on the final day of the conference meet to finish with 169 overall. Nationally-ranked MIT breezed to its seventh consecutive NEWMAC title, while WPI and Wheaton came in second and third, respectively.

Following her fifth-place finish on the 1-meter diving board on Friday night, Ekman shattered her own record of 411.35 with a score of 438.75 in the 3-meter prelims on Sunday morning. She then bettered her own mark again with a score of 441.35 to come in eighth in the finals.

First-year Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) also capped her first conference meet with a pair of strong performances on day four. She touched the wall with a time of 54.79 in the prelims of the 100-yard freestyle, and then finished ninth in the 'B' final with a time of 55.18. Rentovich also teamed with seniors Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.) and Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.), and sophomore Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) to finish 10th in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:52.21.

Dupre also came in 28th in the prelims of the grueling 1650 free with a time of 20:17.38, just three seconds ahead of sophomore Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine), who finished in 31st position. Sophomore Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) recorded a score of 356.95 to place 13th in the 3-meter diving prelims.
