The Babson College women's tennis team recently had four athletes receive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-League honors. First-year Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, Mass.) was named All-NEWMAC Second Team at number five singles, sophomore Gabriela Baez (Quito, Ecuador) was named All-Conference Second Team at number six singles, and junior Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) and sophomore Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) were each named All-NEWMAC Second Team at number three doubles. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology played host to the 2009 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Championship Saturday at the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. The two-day event began with quarterfinal matches as the #6 seed Engineers of MIT took on the #3 Beavers of Babson College and the #5 Lyons of Mount Holyoke College challenged the #4 Pioneers of Smith College. After the day was done, the Engineers and Pioneers were victorious, and the Beavers and Lyons were eliminated. [+]

The Babson College womens tennis team finished up its regular season competition with a 7-2 victory over visiting MIT in a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at the Farwell Courts on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Babson (7-3 overall, 5-2 NEWMAC) will enter this weekends conference tournament as the third seed and will have face sixth-seeded MIT (3-5 overall, 3-4 NEWMAC) in a rematch of todays contest in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals this Saturday, October 24, at 11 a.m. at MIT.
