Volleyball Finishes Sixth At Brandeis Invitational; Lynch Named All-Tournament

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Babson College women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches at the 2009 Brandeis Invitational Tournament on Saturday, and as a result finished sixth out of nine teams at the event. With 103 assists in the team's four matches, first-year Kathleen Lynch was named to the All-Tournament Team for the first time in her young collegiate career.
Babson dropped its first match of the day to NESCAC power Tufts, 3-1 (25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23). Senior captain Caitlin O'Neill had another great offensive day for the Beavers, recording 12 kills and only two errors on 20 attack attempts to go with four digs. Junior Nina Milovanovic also had a huge day, posting eight kills and no errors along with 11 digs, and Lynch added 27 assists, nine dige, and four kills. Senior captain Becca Rydzik paced the defense with a team-high 19 digs, and sophomore Anna Belz contributed 13 digs.
Facing the host Judges in their final match of the tourney, the Beavers fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-20). Milovanovic led the offense with five kills, sophomore Meg Flaherty added four kills and eight digs, and O'Neill contributed three kills and three blocks. Rydzik notched 10 more digs, Belz had six digs, and Lynch capped off her stellar weekend with five digs, two block assists, and 18 assists.
