Women’s Volleyball Suffers Four-Set Loss to Ithaca in NCAA Tournament Potsdam Regional Final

Beecher, Cameron Named to Potsdam Regional All-Tournament Team

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Babson College women's volleyball team saw its NCAA Tournament run come to an end with a four-set (25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15) loss to Ithaca College in the Potsdam Regional final on Sunday afternoon inside Alumni Gymnasium.

Babson, which was making its first regional final appearance in school history, finishes the year at 22-10. Ithaca, which was in its first regional final since 2000, improves to 24-8 and moves on to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 1995.

First-year Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) led all players with 13 kills, while sophomore Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) dished out 30 assists and became the first player in school history to surpass 1,000 in a single season for the Beavers. Junior Abby Beecher (Pittsford, N.Y.) finished with 16 digs and the trio of junior Shannon Roseen (Malden, Mass.), sophomore Kristin Carosotto (East Greenwich, R.I.) and first-year Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.) recorded seven kills apiece.

First-year Reagan Stone (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior Joelle Goldstein (Kings Park, N.Y.) had 12 and 10 kills, respectively, for the Bombers. Sophomore Caitlyn Floyd (Mahwah, N.J.) led all players with 40 assists and junior Tara Stilwell (Centennial, Colo.) finished with a match-high 18 digs in the win.

The Green and White never led in the opening set, but were tied twice early and pulled to within 15-14 on a kill by Puccio. Junior Amanda Cerruti (West Islip, N.Y.), who was selected as the regional's most outstanding player, followed with a kill and Stone served up three consecutive aces to give Ithaca a 20-14 advantage that it would not relinquish.

The Beavers played from in front for much of game two, extending their lead to as many as four at 19-15 on a kill by Puccio. The Bombers tied it at 21-all on a kill by Goldstein and took a 23-22 lead on another kill by junior Katie Evans (Westerville, Ohio) before Babson responded with the final three points of the frame. Puccio tied it up with a kill and Beecher closed out the stanza with back-to-back service aces.

The Green and White led by as many as three early in the third set and were up 13-11 before Ithaca rattled off eight of the next 10 points to build a comfortable 21-15 edge. A kill and an ace by Miller helped cut the deficit to three, but two kills from Cerruti and another from Goldstein helped the Bombers close out the pivotal frame.

Ithaca recorded 13 kills and hit .281 as a team in game four on its way to securing a spot in next week's quarterfinals. Babson got as close as three at 11-8 on a kill by Miller, but four kills by Stone and three more by Cerruti helped the Bombers pull away.

• Babson is now 0-2 all-time against Ithaca.
• Beecher, who became just the fourth player in program history to surpass 500 digs in a season, and Cameron were both named to the Potsdam Regional All-Tournament team.
• Puccio finished the year ranked third in single-season history in both points (406.5) and kills (365).
• With four blocks in Sunday's loss, Carosotto tied Katelin Anderson '00 for ninth on the Beavers' single-season list with 79 total blocks.
