Babson Athletics Releases Winter Varsity Sports Plan

BABSON PARK, Mass.—After thorough review, careful consideration and continuing consultation with campus leadership and at the local, state and federal levels, Babson College is planning for limited intercollegiate competition in men's and women's basketball and men's ice hockey, with the first competition date slated for Saturday, January 30.

Men's and women's swimming & diving will have the opportunity to compete in virtual meets, while men's and women's alpine skiing will practice regularly.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Presidents Council voted to cancel the winter regular season conference schedule and championships in men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming & diving on November 2. The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) followed suit on November 23.

The College's plan was established in consultation with Environmental Health and Engineering, Inc., and in accordance with federal, state, local, NCAA and National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) guidelines.

Committed to the health and safety of all student-athletes, coaches, staff and referees while seeking to provide a meaningful varsity sport experience, Babson officials have developed safe and competitive opportunities around testing, distancing and face covering that occur outside of the normal conference events.

Strict adherence to the NCAA's Core Principles to Resocialization in College Sports will be met. The number of non-conference competitions will meet the NCAA's minimum requirement for championship access. Further details on varsity athletics participation and safety measures, including testing requirements, have been provided to participating student-athletes and their families.

Spectators will not be permitted in Staake Gymnasium or the Babson Skating Center. Live video streams with play-by-play will be provided for all home events on the Babson College Sports Network (BCSN). BCSN is powered by BlueFrame Technology.
