Welcome to Babson Skating School

Babson Skating School is proud to offer classes through the Learn to Skate USA program. Our instructors are certified Learn to Skate instructors with experience teaching all ages and levels.

Learn to Skate Classes

Learn to Skate group classes are offered for beginning through advanced skaters ages 3 to adult. Skaters progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated. Skaters must pass each level before moving onto the next level and will be evaluated within the first 2 weeks of classes.

Please Note: Skaters must have passed previous level or display equivalent skill level for each class. Skaters may be moved to an appropriate level at the instructor's discretion. Please see below for important Skating School policies.

Tot Learn to Skate (3-6 yrs)

Snowplow Sam levels 1-3 introduce skating in a fun, small group environment. Skaters build confidence in skating and in themselves through fun and games in a positive environment. Skaters progress at their own rate and advance after achieving skill mastery.

  • Fee: $300 for once weekly class for 12 meetings.
  • 30 minutes of instruction, 15 minutes of practice time.
  • Online waiver and Learn to Skate USA membership required.

Youth Learn to Skate (6-15 yrs)

Youth classes are offered for skaters ages 6 to 15. Skaters start in our Basic 1-6 levels with curriculum focused on introducing and teaching the fundamentals of figure skating and hockey. Hockey skaters may advance to our Learn to Play Program after successful completion of Basic 2 or equivalent. See below for Learn to Play information. Freeskate classes are offered for more advanced skaters with curriculum focused on figure skating skills including jumps, spins, and transitions. For all levels, skaters progress at their own rate and advance after achieving skill mastery.

  • Fee: $300 for once weekly class for 12 meetings.
  • 30 minutes of instruction, 15 minutes of practice time.
  • Online waiver and Learn to Skate USA membership required.

Adult Learn to Skate (16+ yrs)

Adult classes are designed for beginning through experienced adult skaters to develop and improve skating skills in a small group environment. Curriculum promotes physical fitness while developing balance, coordination, and skating skills.

  • Fee: $300 for once weekly class for 12 meetings.
  • 30 minutes of instruction, 15 minutes of practice time.
  • Online waiver and Learn to Skate USA membership required.

Learn to Play Program (6-15 yrs)

Intro to Hockey and Learn to Play Hockey classes are offered for skaters ages 6-15 to learn the fundamentals of hockey through a variety of skills and drills. Hockey skating, puck handling, and introductory game experiences will be developed in a fun group environment.

PREREQUISITE: BASIC 2/Snowplow Sam 3 or instructor recommendation

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Hockey skates, hockey helmet with cage, mouth guard, hockey gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin pads, athletic cup/pelvic protector, ice hockey pants, and ice hockey stick.

Fee: $150 for once weekly class for 12 meetings; $300 for twice weekly class for 24 meetings. Skaters must register for each class to attend both days.

30 minutes of instruction per class meeting.

Online waiver and Learn to Skate USA membership required.

Skating School Policies

Online registration is required.

Online waiver must be accepted for all participants.

All skaters must maintain current Learn to Skate USA membership.

Skaters may be moved into appropriate classes based on age/ability.

Classes may be canceled, split or combined based upon enrollment.

There is no guarantee that skaters will be placed in the same class.

Make up classes may be scheduled with the Program Director, space is limited.

Skaters may register for multiple Learn to Skate classes. Multi-class or multi-family discount may apply to multiple registrations within the same family account (Learn to Play classes excluded).

No refunds. Credits available for withdrawals through the fourth week of classes. Any classes attended plus a $25 fee will be deducted from the credit.

Babson employees must contact the Program Director to receive the Babson Employee Discount.
