Men’s Ice Hockey Tops Saint Anselm in Season Opener, 4-2

MANCHESTER, N.H.—Sophomore Nick Rosa (Birmingham, Mich.) finished with two goals and one assist and was one of three players to record a multi-point game as visiting Babson College defeated Saint Anselm College, 4-2, in non-conference men's ice hockey action on Saturday at Sullivan Arena.

First-year Mike Egan (Billerica, Mass.) had a goal and an assist and junior Connor Dahlman (Stamford, Conn.) chipped in with two assist for the Beavers (1-0). First-year Matt Wiesner (Newport Beach, Calif.) scored once and senior Tommy Munichiello (Weymouth, Mass.) contributed an assist. Classmate Matt Pompa (Palm City, Fla.) made 15 of his 37 saves in the final period for the Green and White.

Senior Bryan Green (Weymouth, Mass.) and classmate Brian Cameron (Wakefield, Mass.) both scored for the Hawks, who got 27 saves from fellow senior Colin Soucy (North Andover, Mass.).

Saint Anselm took a 1-0 lead just 2:07 into the first period before Babson responded with a pair of goals just over two minutes apart to take its first advantage of the season. Wiesner put away a feed from Egan at the 5:57 mark and Rosa scored on the power play at 8:06 of the first to make it 2-1.

Following a scoreless second period, the Hawks pulled event just 3:14 into the third on Green's power play tally. The momentum was short-lived however as Egan scored his first collegiate goal less than a minute into a power play to give Babson a 3-2 lead at 5:12 of the third.

Pompa made 10 of his 15 third-period stops during a nine-minute stretch in the middle of the period, and the Green and White secured the victory on Rosa's empty netter with 60 seconds remaining.

The Beavers, who won 37-of-54 face-offs, were outshot 39-31 by Saint Anselm.

Both teams return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts New England College, while the Hawks travel to Saint Michael's.
