LAKE FOREST, Ill.—Sophomore Nick Rosa (Birmingham, Mich.) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:27 to go in regulation as visiting Babson College rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Lake Forest College, 3-2, in non-conference men's ice hockey action on Sunday afternoon.
With its second straight victory, Babson improves to 10-3-1, while Lake Forest slips to 5-5-3 with its second consecutive loss.
First-year Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) finished with a goal and an assist, junior Cooper Norton (Williston, Vt.) scored once, and first-year Mike Egan (Billerica, Mass.) contributed two assists for the Beavers. Classmate Ryan Campbell (Scituate, Mass.) registered his first career point with an assist and senior goaltender Matt Pompa (Palm City, Fla.) made 31 saves to improve to 5-2-0 on the year.
Sophomores Aaron O'Neill (Franklin, Tenn.) and Mark DerManulian (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) both scored on the power play for the Foresters. Classmate Joe Sardina (Red Oak, Texas), senior Cody Guidorzi (St. Louis, Mo.) and classmate Bron Loiselle (Queensbury, N.Y.) all chipped in with an assist, while fellow senior George Argiropoulos (Toronto, Ontario) turned away 26 shots in defeat.
Lake Forest outshot the Green and White 12-6 in the opening period and jumped on top 1-0 thanks to O'Neill's tally at the 14:28 mark. Babson killed off a penalty with 57 seconds left in the first, but the Foresters took advantage of a third cross-checking call at 4:39 of the second when DerManulian tipped home a feed from Sardina just over a minute later to make it 2-0.
The Beavers were unable to get on the board during a five-minute power play, but Pompa made a big stop on O'Neill and Norton sliced the deficit in half with his first goal of the season at the 11:41 mark. Both squads killed off power plays late in the second before Black tied the game with his fourth goal of the year on the power play just 4:09 into the third.
The Green and White held a 12-6 edge in third-period shots and Rosa scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 18:33 mark to go in front for good. Argiropoulos made back-to-back saves on first-year Cam Schmitt (Andover, Mass.) and Rosa, but the third effort paid off as he jammed home his own rebound for a 3-2 advantage.
Pompa made his final save of the night with 29 seconds left and Rosa won a defensive-zone face-off in the waning seconds to close out the victory.
The Beavers, who were outshot 33-29, went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Foresters scored twice on seven man-advantage opportunities.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Curry for a 4:50 p.m. start, while Lake Forest visits St. Norbert on Friday at 5 p.m.
