  • Men's Ice Hockey's Casey Tabbed as Student-Athlete of the Week

    Babson College men's ice hockey senior Brendan Casey (Glastonbury, Conn.) was selected as the department's Student-Athlete of the Week last Friday afternoon. A defenseman, Casey scored once in a 6-1 win over Castleton on February 5 and has appeared in all four games this season for the Beavers, who have allowed just four goals during their 4-0 start.

Flynn matched his career high with a goal and two assists for three points in the Beavers' 6-0 season-opening win over Castleton on Sunday inside the Babson Skating Center.

    After talking about his days as a player and his transition to becoming the head coach at Babson in 2004 in the first part of our feature with Jamie Rice '90, part two focuses on the success he's enjoyed leading the Beavers to four conference tournament championships and five NCAA Tournament berths since 2007. We also talked about the final weeks and days of the 2020 campaign, which saw his team reach the NCAA Tournament despite a loss in the NEHC quarterfinals only to the Division III championship shut down by COVID-19.

    After enjoying tremendous success as a player at Babson College from 1986-90, Jamie Rice '90 returned to his alma mater in 2004 and is now in his 17th season as the Beavers' head men's ice hockey coach. A forward, Rice scored 24 goals and recorded 55 assists for 79 points in 116 games during his four-year career, which included four NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the Division III national semifinals. His success as a player has continued since joining the head coaching ranks as Rice has guided Babson to five NCAA Tournament berths, four conference tournament championships and nine appearances in the league tournament final.
