SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Union College got multi-goal games from six different players on the way to defeating visiting Babson College, 17-5, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field.
Babson, which has dropped two straight games, slips to 2-2 on the year, while Union improves to 2-0 overall.
Seniors Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Eric Torbett (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.), juniors Troy Nanfelt (Lakeville, Mass.) and Thomas Jung (Vienna, Va.), and sophomore Alex Lesher (Scottsdale, Ariz.) all had a goal for the Beavers. Senior Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) dished out two assists and junior Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made nine saves over the three quarters.
Senior John Edmonds (Fairfield, Conn.), junior Michael Sands (Greenwich, Conn.), sophomores Aidan Flood (Glastonbury, Conn.), Brian Davis (Deerfield, Mass.) and Keaton McCann (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), and first-year Greg Andrea (Locust Valley, N.Y.) all scored twice for the Dutchmen. Junior Patrick Regan (Baltimore, Md.) and senior Alex Newhouse (Parkland, Fla.) combined to win 16-of-19 face-offs and scooped up nine ground balls, while fellow senior Jack Santilli (Hingham, Mass.) made eight saves in almost three quarters of action and led all players with three caused turnovers.
Union won 6-of-7 first-quarter face-offs and got two goals from Davis on the way to building a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes. Edmonds' second tally of the game made it 7-0 4:23 into the second and junior Kerry Lyne (Wellesley, Mass.) followed with another marker 13 seconds later to extend Babson's deficit to eight. Mishkind converted a feed from Dillon at the 7:17 mark but McCann answered with his first goal less than two minutes later to give the Dutchmen a 9-1 advantage at the break.
Union scored four straight goals to open the third quarter before Torbett stopped the run with his first collegiate tally with 2:27 to go in the stanza. Trailing 15-2 going to the fourth, Jung scored a man-up goal 61 seconds into the frame, Nanfelt notched his first goal of the season just over two minutes later, and Lesher put away a feed from sophomore Mason O'Hanlon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) to cap a three-goal run that made it 15-5 with nine minutes to play.
Junior Andrew Tymkiv (Oakville, Ontario) and first-year Austin O'Brien (Boston, Mass.) combined to make five saves in the fourth quarter for the Green and White, which scored just once on seven man-up chances.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Rensselaer at 2 p.m., while Union visits Williams on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

• Mishkind, who needs just two more goals to reach 100 for his career, has scored in 10 straight games going back to last season.
