WHITTIER, Calif.—Sophomores Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) both won in singles and doubles to help Babson College defeat Nichols College, 7-2, in non-conference men's tennis action on Monday afternoon.
With the victory, Babson is now 6-0 on the year, while Nichols slips to 3-5 overall.
Kolesnik and Libnic posted an 8-1 win at number two doubles, while junior Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) and first-year Jackson Stewart (Beverly Hills, Calif.) followed it up with an 8-6 victory at number three. The Bison earned their lone point in doubles as juniors Guilherme Barbosa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Brandon Howard (Hamden, Conn.) edged senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and junior Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Calif.), 8-4, at first doubles.
The Beavers dominated singles play picking up four of their five points in straight sets. De Mendiola won 6-2, 6-2 at number one, Libnic won a first-set tiebreaker and then cruised to a 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 victory at number two, and Kolesnik rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Nichols senior Sebastian Penaloza, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 at number four.
First-year Ron Brody (Springfield, N.J.) swept his way to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number five, while classmate Rafael Premisleaner (Ojai, Calif.) split the first two sets before pulling out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory at number six.
Babson (6-0) returns to action on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. when it takes on No. 3 Bowdoin in Claremont, Calif.
