SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Visiting Babson College swept through doubles and earned all five of its singles points in straight sets on the way to defeating Springfield College, 8-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Appleton Courts.
Winners of four straight matches, Babson improves to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in league play, while Springfield slips to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the NEMWAC.
Senior Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded an 8-3 result at number one doubles, junior Dylan Pace (Atherton, Calif.) and first-year Tyler Zhang (Northborough, Mass.) were 8-5 winners at number two, and sophomore Andre Libnic (Coral Gables, Fla.) and first-year Rafael Premisleaner (Ojai, Calif.) breezed to an 8-0 victory at number three.
Rosenbluth and Zhang posted matching 6-1, 6-0 wins at second and fourth singles, while first-year Ron Brody (Springfield, N.J.) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at number three. Premisleaner produced a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number five and junior Scott Riester (Lynnfield, Mass.) captured his first win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 result at number six.
The Pride's lone point came at number one singles where senior Court Honda (Morioka, Japan) edged Libnic 6-4, 7-5.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Emerson at 12 p.m., while Springfield travels to MIT at 10:30 a.m.
