NORTON, Mass.—Three players picked up points in singles and doubles as visiting Babson College rolled to a 9-0 win over Wheaton College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
Babson opens the year at 1-0, while Wheaton starts 0-1. The match did not count in the NEWMAC standings as the teams are set to meet again in April.
The Beavers breezed through two of the three doubles matches as sophomores Sebastian Bucarion (Sarasota, Fla.) Jett Hampton (Lakeway, Texas) won 8-1 at number three, while senior Chris Kolesnik (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Kian Yazdi (London, England) recorded an easy 8-3 triumph at number two.
Babson completed the sweep at number where the sophomore duo of Jason Weisman (Claremont, Calif.) and Parker Law (White Bear Lake, Minn.) edged Wheaton's Ian Tracy (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Josh Anshuetz (West Bloomfield, Mich.), 8-6.
The Green and White had little trouble with the Lyons in singles as Yazdi was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at number one and Weisman posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number two. Law earned his second point of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number six.
Sophomore Maxwell Conlin (Alameda, Calif.) posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at number three, first-year Gabriel Cestero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) won 6-0, 6-2 at number four and sophomore Jack MacDonald (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number five.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Clark at 2 p.m.
• The Beavers are 20-10 all-time against Wheaton and have won 11 of the last 12 matches between the teams.
• Law's singles and doubles wins were the first of his career.
• Cestero and Yazdi, who transferred from Marist, both made their Babson debuts on Saturday.
