WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College men's cross country program was picked to finish fifth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.
MIT, which captured its 20th consecutive title last season, grabbed seven of eight first-place votes to finish atop the poll. Defending runner-up WPI earned one first-place vote and finished second, Coast Guard Academy came in third, and Springfield College was fourth just ahead of the Beavers.
Babson returns six harriers from a team that came in fourth with the program's lowest point total since 1995 at last year's conference meet. Under the direction of 15th-year head coach Russ Brennen, the Green and White has posted three consecutive top-four finishes at the NEWMAC Championship dating back to 2015.
The Beavers open their season with a dual meet at Wheaton on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
