DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Sophomore Samantha Smith (Greenfield, Mass.) converted a layup with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift visiting Babson College to a 66-64 win over UMass Dartmouth in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night inside the Tripp Athletic Center.

With the victory, Babson improves to 3-0 on the year, while UMass Dartmouth drops to 1-3 overall.

First-year Kelly Walsh (Goffstown, N.H.) scored a game-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Beavers. Sophomore Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) finished with 14 points, seven assists and six boards, while senior Nicole Hiller (Rocky Hill, Conn.) added 10 points and eight rebounds. Smith led all players by pulling down 10 caroms to go along with eight points in the victory.

Junior Jordan Moretti (Johnston, R.I.) scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with five assists to lead the Corsairs. Junior Shaelyn Carriero (Fall River, Mass.), who grabbed nine boards, was one of five players to finished with eight points in the loss.

UMass Dartmouth shot 53.8 percent in the opening period and took its biggest lead of the game at 21-14 on a steal and layup by senior Meagan Donovan (Abington, Mass.) 31 seconds into the second quarter. The Green and White responded with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 23-23 with 6:02 left in the stanza, and then rattled off an 13-3 spurt that included a three-pointer by first-year Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.), a layup by sophomore Jade Perry (Auburn, Maine) and a jumper just before the horn from Walsh to build a 38-32 halftime advantage.

The Beavers matched their biggest lead of the game twice on baskets early in the third by Hiller before Carriero capped an 8-0 run to put the Corsairs back in front 45-43 with 4:26 left in the quarter. First-year Kaylin Zalewski (Johnston, R.I.) knocked down a triple and converted a layup to make it 54-51 heading to the fourth before Smith scored four straight points to put Babson back in front 55-54 with 7:42 to go in the contest.

Walsh gave the Green and White a 59-58 edge with 3:30 remaining and Bauman followed with a three-point play in transition on the following possession to make it 62-58 with 3:08 left. Moretti countered for UMass Dartmouth though, scoring on consecutive trips to tie the game with 1:42 to go. Babson went back in front on a layup by Walsh with 1:05 to play, but Moretti drained two free throws after being fouled with 2.2 seconds left setting up Smith's heroics.

Following a timeout, the Beavers advanced the ball to their offensive end and Walsh found Smith cutting to the hoop for the game-winning bucket with 1.2 ticks left.

The Green and White, which committed a season-low 13 turnovers, outscored the Corsairs 28-26 in the paint and 16-2 in second-chance points.
