Women’s Lacrosse Edges Plymouth State in Season Opener, 10-8

Beavers Open Season with a Victory for Fourth Striaght Year

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Lexi Lenaghan (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Georgia Salvatore (Westwood, Mass.) scored three goals apiece to help Babson College defeat visiting Plymouth State University, 10-8, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

Salvatore dished out two assists and Lenaghan added one for the Beavers (1-0), who also got goals from senior Olivia McCahan (Providence, R.I.), juniors Olivia Remley (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Taylor Herrmann (Mahwah, N.J.), and sophomore Juliana McGuire (Sparta, N.J.). Sophomore Isabelle Lent (Madison, Conn.) led all players with five draw controls, and senior Mairead Williams (Hingham, Mass.), sophomore Sara O'Connor (Marshfield, Mass.) and first-year Brooke Leveillee (Longmeadow, Mass.) all recorded two caused turnovers.

Junior Sydney Dubois (Goffstown, N.H.) scored three goals and seniors Kimberly Zuccaro (Townsend, Mass.) and Veronyca Daniels (Concord, N.H.) both added a goal and two assists for the Panthers (0-1). Zuccaro also recorded four ground balls and three draw controls, while Dubois led all players with three caused turnovers.

Lenaghan, McCahan and Remley all scored as Babson built a 3-0 lead just over nine minutes into the contest. Plymouth State turned the ball over on its first five possessions, but got back-to-back tallies from Daniels and Dubois in the span of 30 seconds to cut its deficit to one at the 19:10 mark. Salvatore notched her first goal of the game with 12:49 to go in the opening period and Herman buried a free-position chance 12 seconds before halftime to stretch the Beavers' lead back to 5-2 at the break.

The Panthers scored twice in the first 4:03 of the second half to again pull within one, but Salvatore set up markers by Lenaghan and McGuire to extend Babson's lead back to 7-4 with 21:32 to play. Salvatore notched her second goal of the afternoon at the 13:46 mark and Lenaghan completed her hat trick 57 seconds later as the Beavers took their biggest lead of the game at 9-5 with 12:49 left.

Zuccaro set up junior Sam Fiore's (Merrimac, Mass.) tally with 10:34 remaining and then scored on a free-position shot to cut Babson's lead in half with 5:19 to go. Herrmann won the ensuing draw and Salvtore scored 63 seconds later to extend the margin back to three.

Sophomore Cricket Fligor (Weston, Mass.) finished with three saves for the Beavers, while sophomore Meaghan Allard (Amherst, N.H.) stopped 10 shots for the Panthers.

The Green and White won the ground ball battled 20-15 and forced 24 Plymouth State turnovers, 12 of which came on clearing opportunities.

Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Skidmore at 2 p.m., while Plymouth State is off until March 10 when it visits Bates at 1 p.m.

• The Beavers are 11-5 all-time against Plymouth State and have won six of the last seven meetings between the programs.
• Babson has won four straight season openers going back to 2016.
• The Green and White has won its last eight games when scoring 10 or more goals.
