BABSON PARK, Mass.—Rising seniors Maria Bravo (Windermere, Fla.) and Maren Mellen (Duxbury, Mass.) were both recognized for their success in the classroom on Wednesday when they were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.
In addition to the individual accolades, head coach Michelle Smith's squad also was one of 312 programs to earn Division III Academic team honors. The Beavers, who finished with a 3.04 team grade-point average in the fall and a 3.23 GPA in the spring, were one of 312 schools from the NCAA and the NAIA recognized for their work in the classroom. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
Bravo and Mellen were two of 653 student-athletes from 173 different institutions named to the 2019 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. Both players were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference squad for the second year in a row this past spring, while helping the Beavers finish second in the league in goals against average.
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Babson captured its second consecutive NEWMAC regular season title and finished the year at 13-6 overall.
