WALTHAM, Mass.—Senior Olivia West (Norwell, Mass.) scored for the third consecutive game, but Babson College was unable to rally from a two-goal first half deficit and fell to Brandeis University, 3-1, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.
Babson, which had its two-game winning streak snapped, slips to 2-2-0 on the year, while Brandeis improves to 4-1-0 with its fourth consecutive victory.
Senior Maggie McCabe (Weston, Mass.) and sophomore Sydney McLaughlin (Sherborn, Mass.) each recorded an assist for the Beavers, who got a season-high 11 saves from first-year goalkeeper Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ontario).
Sophomore Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass.) scored twice and junior Daria Bakhtiari (Wilmington, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for the Judges. Senior Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn.) stopped three shots in the win.
After a number of early chances Brandeis took the lead in the 21st minute when Hunt tracked down a deflected cross and lofted a shot from the top of the box over Fedosiewich for her third goal of the year. She struck again less than three minutes later as she put away the rebound of Bakhtiari's shot the deflected off the crossbar for a 2-0 advantage in the 23rd minute.
The Green and White responded though, as West pulled one back in the 27th minute. Following a throw-in along the right sideline, McLaughlin played a low service into the box where West raced past a defender and one-timed the pass inside the near post to get within 2-1.
The Judges created some breathing room in the 69th minute when Bakhtiari's volleyed a loose ball into the upper right corner for her first goal of the season and a 3-1 edge.
Fedosiewich made three saves over the opening 17 minutes of the game, and Babson senior back Maya King (Auburndale, Mass.) cleared another Brandeis scoring chance off the goal line in the 14th minute to keep the game scoreless.
The Judges finished with a 26-4 edge in shots and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bowdoin at 3:30 p.m., while Brandeis is set to take on Tufts on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
• The Beavers are now 17-24-3 all-time against Brandeis.
• West is the first Babson player to produce a goal in three straight games since Jessica Fernandes '19 achieved the feat with tallies against Coast Guard, Salve Regina and Clark between October 8-15, 2016.
