No. 20 Women's Volleyball Overpowers Suffolk, 3-0

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Kristin Carosotto (East Greenwich, R.I.) led all players with 11 kills and classmate Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) dished out 30 assists as 20th-ranked Babson College defeated visiting Suffolk University, 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-13), in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Babson improves to 3-0 on the year, while Suffolk dropped to 1-2.

Juniors Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Avery Tronson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and sophomore Jacalyn Pell (Milton, Ga.) each recorded five kills for the Beavers, who hit .377 as a team. Junior Sabrina Lechner (Novato, Calif.) finished with four kills and four blocks, while sophomore Maddie Malee (Orlando, Fla.) tallied a match-high seven digs in the win.

First-year Emerson Martin (Nashua, N.H.) had six kills and junior Kayla Barbera (Wakefield, R.I.) added five kills and five digs to lead the Rams. First-year Harmony Johnson (Riverside, Calif.) dished out 14 assists and led the team with six digs in the loss.

Carosotto put away six kills and junior Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.) served up two of Babson's five aces as the hosts hit .364 in the opening set and cruised to a 1-0 lead. After trading the first six points of game two, the Green and White scored 16 of the next 20 points to build a commanding 19-7 advantage. Miller and Puccio both had two kills, and Cameron produced a pair of service aces during the spurt, which also included five attack errors by Suffolk.

The Beavers never trailed in the third set after opening a 9-2 advantage and recording 16 kills while hitting at a .444 clip. The Rams scored four straight points on the serve of junior Hannah Fabiano (Litchfield, N.H.) to get within two, but two kills apiece by Carosotto, Pell and Tronson helped extend the lead back to 17-10 on the way to closing out the match.

Babson is off until September 13 when it hosts SUNY Geneseo at 6:30 p.m. to open MIT Invitational play, while Suffolk travels to Colby for a tri-match next Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

MATCH NOTES
• The Beavers are 9-2 all-time against Suffolk although Saturday's match was the first between the programs since 2012.
• Babson's 21-match winning streak is now the second longest in Division III behind Johns Hopkins, which has won 25 straight at home.
• The Beavers have swept their last 17 opponents at home and have won 52 consecutive sets inside Staake Gymnasium dating back to October 31, 2017.
• With 17 kills over the weekend, Carosotto now ranks 14th in program history with 575 for her career.
